Today is my stop on the blog tour for Good Girl, Bad Girl by Ann Girdharry, and I am thrilled to present you a little introduction of the main character of the story along with my review.

My Review
When we are introduced to Kal Medi, she is just back from a mission abroad. But what’s on her mind isn’t the jet-lag, or the thought of a relaxing bubble bath. Her mother is missing. Riddled with guilt for not having taken her mother’s last phone call seriously enough to come back earlier, Kal quickly understands her vanishing is linked to Alesha Medi’s work. Like mother, like daughter, Kal takes it upon herself to discover what happened and starts an investigation that will lead her across the world.
Combine psychology and action, add plane tickets and dark secrets, politics and the worst in men, and you get yourself a strong read. While Kal’s investigation to find her mother adds the thrill of the chase and a good dose of handwork, what drew me to this story was the psychological study of what is left of our upbringing when we become adults. How much do our parents’ shape us? Are all our choices dictated by ourselves or our parents’ words? I found Kal’s search for her true self fascinating without ever becoming boring thanks to the adrenaline brought by the investigation.
We are proved once again that what happens on the highest spheres of the community is not shinier… or even legal. As the clock ticks, her mother’s hopes of being found are getting weaker, and Kal needs to use all her strengths and abilities to uncover the actions of shady well-off men ready to do anything to protect their secret world. For that, she must rely on her late father’s legacy, a knowledge of manipulation, deceit and lies. This comes so naturally to Kal that she starts to wonder what kind of person she really is.
While some of her actions as well as details in the storyline came a little too obvious or far-fetched, I could not help but feel the tension creep in as Kal got closer to her enemies, and the truth. The author masterfully manages to balance a fast-paced plot with deeper questioning and time flew so fast that I was genuinely surprised when I realized I had reached the end of the story. I am giving Good Girl, Bad Girl three and a half stars and will be looking forward to meeting Kal again in her next story!

Born and educated in the UK, Ann Girdharry is a trained psychotherapist and has worked as a manager in the not-for-profit sector for many years for agencies working with: carers, vulnerable older people and those with dementia, survivors of abuse, and victims of racism and racial attacks. Today she lives in Montpellier, France with her husband and two children. As well as her passion for writing, Ann enjoys gardening and is a member of her local roller blading club. Great! This sounds good. Fast pace plus the psychology aspect makes it sound like a pretty interesting read. I like the presentation of the main character, the police background check is awesome.

Yes, it is my first blog tour, and I wanted to do something a little different, so instead of focusing on the review, I decided to introduce the main character this way. I was not sure I could have the perfect format because I am terrible at putting things together in a nice way, but I like it 🙂 Thank you so much! The book is a strong first installment of a series, I am so relieved I liked it, it would have been harder to participate if it hadn’t been the case!

This book sounds very interesting. Especially the psychological struggle between your upbringing and who you are. I recently read a book that touched on that subject as well. Although it didn’t go into the science, and was mainly focused on the protagonist breaking free of her upbringing, the premise is very interesting.

I panicked after I submitted the idea to the publicist because I have no skills when it comes to create good graphics, haha. I’m so relieved it looks okay! Blog tours are a little more work than the usual reviews, but it’s fun 🙂
