It starts with a shocking accusation . . .

Stephanie and Patrick are recently married, with new-born twins. While Stephanie struggles with the disorienting effects of sleep deprivation, there’s one thing she knows for certain – she has everything she ever wanted.

Then a woman from his past arrives and makes a horrifying allegation about his first wife. He always claimed her death was an accident – but she says it was murder.

He insists he’s innocent, that this is nothing but a blackmail attempt. But is Patrick telling the truth? Or has Stephanie made a terrible mistake?

How will it end?

If it’s Shari Lapena, I’m in. The End of Her ticked the box, so I jumped on the opportunity to be on the blog tour. Who doesn’t want a dose of excellent domestic thrillers? Because if you need a good one, you’re at the right place!

Stephanie and Patrick are happy. Well, happy but sleep-deprived! Try resting with twin babies with colic! That’s my idea of a never-ending nightmare. But hey, many parents go through this. They enjoy life in a nice neighborhood, with Patrick being a successful architect, and Stephanie… Well Stephanie is staying home and enjoying motherhood… Or surviving motherhood. The picture is not perfect, but it’s one of a lovely couple adjusting to life with two more mouths to feed!

Until a shadow comes to ruin the portrait. A face from the past has come to haunt and hunt Patrick.

Oh, I loved hating Erika! She is the kind of women you wish you’ll never meet. The absurdly manipulative one. The kind who can spin anything into her reality and make it plausible. The kind you want to strangle!!!! Yes, exclamation points. Shari Lapena has made sure to push all my buttons with this book, and then some! I found myself empathizing with different characters depending on the chapter! I was never sure of anything, except that the big wolf had blew on the house and the safe roof was swirling away in the sky!

It turns out Erika has several targets and enjoy games. Nasty woman! Where do greed lead? Read The End of Her to find the answer. But as much as I loathed her, she was the perfect trigger to push the other characters to reveal their true selves. I LOVED THIS PART. It’s not about what is being done to you, it is about how you react to it. Ha! What reactions!

When it becomes obvious that Erika wants money and will do anything to get it, including unearthing Patrick’s past and his dead first wife, the rocky boat starts sinking. Actually, several boats are in trouble…

Stephanie believes her husband. And I did too. His first wife’s death was an accident. I could see Erika’s plans and it made my blood boil! Her words were so poisonous I thought no one would go for it but… I felt sorry for Patrick, having to relive the trauma he had left in Colorado all these years ago, and understood his struggle. But the seed of doubt were planted and, like a snowball gathering strength as it slides on the side of a mountain, it began to tear everything apart. And everyone.

Do not be mistaken, there is no dove and wolf here. It is much more complex and intense than this. For a long time, I thought I knew where I stood, who I wanted to win, and what had happened. I needed Patrick to stand his ground and confront Erika. Except she had already infected different parts of their life and the poison was running free

Patrick watches his life crumbles, and Stephanie is faced with a dark future. Does she really know her husband? The more he tried to convince her, the more she slipped from his grasp. Could they recover from this mess and live happily ever after with their girls? Nothing was less sure. The tension kept ratcheting up as the game turned darker. And suddenly… Suddenly the wind turned, and I was hit by an unforeseen twist! Wow. Re-read the title, and think about this ‘her’ Oh, more than one woman hides behind it…

Domestic life has never been more chilling! I just couldn’t believe what I was reading! How could we go from a happy couple to a shattered family? Count on Shari Lapena to spice up family life!!!

  1. I love that phrase, it’s not what is done to you, it’s how you react “.
I have 2 books by this author on my shelf and haven’t read either yet. Though I have heard many many good things about her books.
