Yep, my boss tried – and almost succeeded – to kill me with a book. Weeks later, my mind is still thinking about how our reads shape the way we see things and how Lucy have made me even more paranoid than I was before!!

Till death do us part…

After leaving her marriage to jealous, possessive oncologist Maxwell, Lily and her six-year-old son have a second chance at happiness with headteacher Sebastian. Kind but vulnerable, Sebastian is the polar opposite of Maxwell, and the perfect match for Lily. After a whirlwind romance, they marry, and that’s when things start to go wrong…
Maxwell returns to the scene, determined to win back his family, and events soon spiral out of control. Lily and Sebastian find themselves not only fighting for their relationship, but also their lives…
Chilling, dark and terrifying, Do No Harm is a taut psychological thriller and a study of obsession, from one of the most exciting new voices in crime fiction.

my review red

Second chances. Do we have to fight for them or do they find us? Lily doesn’t ask herself the question when she decides to tie the knot with Sebastian and offer her son another chance at family life. But the ties of the past are strong and hang heavily on her newly-found happiness.

Families. The depths of their roots, the shared – or not – blood, the fights, the love. I love everything about them. Most of all, I love reading about them. First, it comforts me by showing me weirder families than mine! But most importantly, novels focusing on them shed the light on what family means for different people. Different is the key word. You might think families all look alike, patterns are repeated over and over, the same dramas happen to everyone. Well, some families win the bad lottery and get a chance to let you know there’s always worse!!!

Do No Harm is filled with characters who create a suffocating web of bounds around Lily, Sebastian and young Denny. Each protagonist is crafted so meticulously that your heart just has to reach out, fill itself with love, hatred, confusion. Every emotion is stirred by their actions.

I took sides, I felt utterly lost and puzzled, I squinted at the letters on the pages to try and see behind the veil the author created to find out what on earth was happening and why Lily couldn’t be happy. I believe in second chances, but the more I read, the darker the sky turned, and I realized a happy ending might me too much to ask! The novel is so riveting that I read it in one sitting. It was as if I wasn’t the captain in my own body. The book had taken control of me and I cared for the people I was reading about so vividly that each page had me on a roller-coaster of feelings I couldn’t escape! To be honest, I did not want to escape!!! Do No Harm is unsettling in the best way possible. If there is such a thing. Skeletons in closets, stars not aligned to please you, and shadows throwing threats at what you cherish the most. What a ride!!!

Of course, some obstacles seem obvious. Others less so. I dived into Do No Harm as if it was the purest ocean and came out of it shaking and scared of the world!!! This book is nothing like anything you’ve read before. Its complicated family setting might lull you into a sense of familiarity and safety, but don’t be fooled…

Have you ever read a book that physically hurt you?

Because Do No Harm was this book for me! Want to know why? My jaw hit the floor. Well, the rest of my body, too. I must have spent long minutes staring at the ceiling, wondering about how Lucy V. Hay had managed to smash my world!

If the entire book is a masterpiece, the end is one of the most astonishing and twisted I have ever read. And believe me, I’m a sucker for twisted!!!

Do No Harm is a multi-layered, dark, and disturbing novel with a heart-stopping ending that will make you reconsider the limits of love.

  1. Wow, well as you know this is not my usual genre, but what a stunning review my Sweechie ❤ Isn't it amazing when you get so many emotions from one book alone? I love it when that happens 😀

      1. I feel like you wrote a FANTASTIC review, even if you feel like you didn’t do it justice, you wrote something amazing and convincing ❤
