Launching the #OrendaMonth on chocolatenwaffles!! #PublisherSpotlight @OrendaBooks

When you have been blogging for a while and have witnessed firsthand amazing ideas being brought to the community, you want to give it a try too. Now, I don’t claim to be good enough or very creative to come up with something that is going to blow your mind, but I thought maybe there was a little special feature that I could try and share, for the sake of stepping out of my comfort zone again and taking my blog on a fun stroll.

I hereby officially introduce introduce you to the Orenda Books Month!

First things first… What is this Orenda Month?

Well, I like Twitter a lot. It’s a fantastic treasure box when you can’t sleep and need to chat or just find useful (or useless, depending on your mood) posts to occupy your mind while the rest of the country is snoring. Sometimes you get to meet brilliant people there. I had lots of nice discussions, pep talks, stalking sessions and wrote begging tweets to get the next book in a series. We blogger use it to share and talk about our bookish discoveries, but also to interact with the people who are first in line when our reviews are published: authors and publishers. Now I’m babbling…

Let’s cut it short and say I have had a couple of Orenda Books in my Kindle since November, and I was tired of putting them off because of ARCs. I thought it would be funny to just pick them and focus on one publisher for the time of two stories. It turned out Karen, the wonderful person behind Orenda Books, was around and we got to chat about it. The term “marathon” came out of my mouth, or rather out of my fingers. You’ll never find me run any real marathon but I had realized while many readers follow an author or a series, I had never seen a blog give its full time and energy to a single publisher for an entire month.

There I was. I had two books, a Twitter chat, and the urge to find out if Orenda Books had more books that would make me fall for them as A Suitable Lie had done in November 2016.

bewitched me.gif

Two weeks later, thanks to Karen’s reactivity, sweetness and professionalism, and some other weird ideas, we are launching a fun month during which I will exclusively be reading Orenda Books stories. So this is a real Publisher Spotlight!

What is Orenda Books?

If you’ve been hiding under a rock and haven’t heard of them before, we forgive you and this month is to let you know of a new publisher you can love! Orenda Books is an independent publishing company which focuses on stories which deserve to be read and their love for translated work is one of the best thing about them!

Find Them Here!!

Of course, what’s the point in my reading If I don’t involve my fellow blogger friends? I mean, I want this to be fun. I am lucky to have amazing people interacting on my reviews and fingers crossed, we’ll have a lot to say about the upcoming posts! I’ll also get my first stab at hosting giveaways (this is the scariest part for me!!) and awesome content to share so we can all learn more about Orenda Books and the people behind it.

Because Orenda Books has a lot of different authors and stories, I’ll also try and read more books than I usually do. I have planned my month so I can spend as much time as possible devouring pages instead of adulting!

Here are some of the books I will be reading, others are hiding in my Kindle. Don’t they look brilliantly badass?

So you have been warned, 90% of the content on my blog in March will focus on Orenda Books!! (with a couple of previous engagements appearing here and there!)

Are you familiar with Orenda Books? Do you want to join me and read some of their stories? Which of their titles are on your TBR?

  1. This is really cool. I haven’t heard of Orenda Books before, but I love the idea of focusing on one publisher for the month. I think you’ll get a really good idea of what types of stories they like to publish.

My March happens to be pretty full with Tolkien celebration stuff though.:D

    1. If you come around some time in March I’m sure you’ll find a book that suits your tastes! 🙂 They have some real gems! The idea really stems from my curiosity about Orenda Books’ choice to feature translated work and crime, it combines two things that I really care for. I was surprised when I realized I hadn’t seen a publisher spotlight before and I thought it’d be fun!
Oh, I’ve never read any Tolkien!!! 😀

    1. Thank you so much! I really love the idea and I’m surprised something like this occurred to my non-creative mind, hahaha! I don’t get many ideas so I’m enjoying the project! I picked Orenda because everyone seems to find something they love and their choice of translated works is fantastic to see for the former Translation student I am. Thanks a lot, I’m hoping for some real good fun! xx

  3. Do I know Orenda?! It’s a great publisher with a nose for good books and Karen is such a sweet lady (she seems to be working all the time too).. I’ve read 3 so far and enjoyed them all very much. I haven’t read any of those you list but I’m very interested in learning more about that first one ‘Where roses never die’. You’ve really taken something on your hands here but I look forward to each one of your posts!

    1. Karen is like totally swamped 24/7!! She’s superwoman! I’m really excited about this project because when it was decided I had only read one of their books but it had had such an impact on me. Now I need to see what else they have to offer and if they can kick my ass just as well with all those other books, haha! Where Roses Never Die is intriguing, isn’t it?? 🙂 I can’t wait to share my thoughts! xx

  7. Great post. Orenda have some fabulous books out and I have some still to read. In Her Wake by Amanda Jennings is a standout book, as is the Ragnar Jonasson Dark Iceland series, Sealskin by Su Bristow, both books by Louise Beech……

    1. In Her Wake is on my list, it has been put off for weeks so I’m delighted to finally read it! I already know I’m in for a great reading month 🙂 x

      1. I’m so excited to see what you read and review this month and I will try my best to read A Suitable Lie soon so we can discuss. I have it as well as most other Orenda books…I went crazy at the sale as well as begging Karen for a few:) I also really want to read Deep Down Dead…

        1. I can’t wait to see what you make of A Suitable Lie!! 😀 Haha, I know, the sales was fantastic but I got issues with the currency and the website itself, it was a nightmare! I still managed to get some and the rest was kindly provided for the #OrendaMonth 🙂 Karen is a delight to work with! Weirdly, I haven’t even checked out Deep Down Dead!

  11. this sounds fun , I’d be honest I haven’t heard or read any book from Orenda , I’d give it a try sometime but this month seems unlikely because I am so busy I have only read 100 pages in nearly 10 days 😦 Have fun

    1. I hate being so busy I don’t get reading time 😦 I hope you can squeeze a book in your schedule in March! Thanks! I’m sure to have a lot of fun with Orenda Books!

    1. Thank you!! I’m gonna need luck, haha! I want things to be perfect but I know I’ll have to cut myself some slack or I’ll go crazy, especially because it’s the first time I try something new and this big 🙂 I’m drooling over my own picture hahaha, I love those books already!

  13. What a wonderfully bookish blogging reading March you are going to have. And giveaways!! Excellent, I will certainly be watching out for those. I have heard of orenda books but not sure of I have read any of theirs, I’m thinking probably not. I took part in a blog event last year called Blogival and it was a month of celebrating books published by Clink Street. It was really good. I only read one book as it had lots of bloggers taking part. You have taken on a lovely idea and I’m sure there will be lots of great reviews to come. Remember it’s fun though so no stress! 😉
Congratulations on getting this for Chocolatenwaffles, it sounds brilliant.
    Amanda.

    1. I know, I am overly excited about all the awesome reading time March is gonna bring me! I’m terrified of giveaways as I’ve never done any but it should be fun and I just want to share some brilliant stories 🙂
Thank you SO MUCH for the reminder, I just need it! When I was writing my first Orenda review yesterday I panicked on the fact it had to be perfecter than perfect, haha! But writing down my thoughts as usual should be enough!
      Thanks a lot Amanda xxx

  14. I’ve read about 10 of their books, Donna & can honestly say there’s not a dud in the bunch. The last 2 were by Gunnar Staalesten & Thomas Enger. I don’t know how they find all these great authors, not to mention Kari Dickson who has to be one of the best translators I ever come across. Currently waiting on the next instalment in the Dark Iceland series!

    1. I’m finishing my third book and I cannot believe they are all so good! I was sure I’d fall on the unpopular side for Ragnar Jonasson’s book but … I’m in, 100% hahaha! It’s fantastic to see so many fantastic titles brought to us by the wonderful Orenda team, they have a nose for the right books!!

  15. This is a really great idea Donna, and I can’t wait to see which publisher you pick next month either (I’m always thinking too far ahead sometimes!) I’d never heard of Orenda Books before reading this post but it seems like a great way to start getting through the backlog of books you’re maybe working through.
Also I really need to get a Twitter account at some point.I feel like I’m missing out on a few bookish discussions, but it’ll come after my re-design and Goodreads profiles I think. 🙂

    1. I’ll only be doing the Orenda Month for now I think, it was a convenient project as I had so many of their books on my TBR/wishlist but it would be too much work to do it every month 🙂 I have plenty of ARCs and my own TBR to tackle after this, and I’ll need weeks to recover from taking on a project, haha!
YES Come to Twitter! So you can have meaningless chats and fun! 😀 I can’t wait for you to join!

  18. I hadn’t heard of Orenda before I found one of their picture books on NetGalley not too long ago. Sadly, Come Be Wild With Me did not hit the right notes for me, but I like what Orenda stands for. It has also been the most open and communicative publisher I’ve gotten a NetGalley ARC from in my handful of months on the site, which I appreciate! It was so sweet to get a “thank you” follow-up from them after posting my review.

    1. The book you are referring to belongs to Orenda Press, which I think is different from the Orenda Books company, I haven’t seen Karen’s publishing name on the NetGalley list. But it was nice to send a thank you note! I never got any of those! 🙂
