January Wrap-up

What’s New?

A semester, a treatment, a diary. Nothing much really happened this month, I can’t say it was the best time of my life, but it had its good times, and a whole lot of bad times. Oh and Winter finally came.

Book I Read in January

I love how different all those books look and sound.

Review on its way

Blue Lily, Lily Blue, Maggie Stiefvater
3 and a half stars

PsychoAnalysis, V.R. Stone
3 stars

Robinson Crusoe, Daniel Defoe
No idea how many stars I should give it
Quick review to come

In The Days of the Comet, H.G. Wells
Should I give it comets instead of stars?
Quick review to come

The Demolished Man, Alfred Bester
Review in early Feb!

Other Books I Reviewed in January

Grill the Corrupted, A 4-star review of Corrupt Me

Got a Secret, Can You Keep It? A 2-star review of Don’t Tell Anyone

New Books! (Purchased, received as gifts, ARCs)

Remember I said let’s Beat the Backlist? Well, things happened and half of those were bought for university. Oh and who cares because NEW BOOKS.

Book of The Month Award

I never thought I would nominate a sci-fi book other than 1984 as my book of the month but The Demolished Man had me hooked with an original idea, a great writing and those … special protagonists! Forget the ugly cover, this is good!

Here’s how my January went. Nothing fantastic to review, but progress was made nonetheless… How were those cold weeks for you? How many books did you manage to read? Buy? Not buy?

  1. You’ve read 8 books in January, that’s a nice number of reads ! I’ve actually read one of your mentions in the New Books list and it’ll be a 5 star review (in 3 weeks) so you’ve got a winner among them as far as I’m concerned. I’ve read 4, bought 4 and received 4 physical copies (or 5 I don’t know). So one step forward, 2 steps back haha :-). Happy reading in February!

    1. Only 6 books read in fact! But it’s not that bad because Crusoe took me like 8 days, haha! Oooh I’m curious!!I can’t wait for that mysterious review!!! I sure won’t buy much more paperback because my budget doesn’t allow it for the moment but Amazon still has a few nice deals πŸ™‚ Happy reading!!

  2. Oh, I love all the different books!!! So much diversity, so much loving it! πŸ™‚
Sarah’s Scribbles will be a good one.. I follow her page on Facebook, such awesome illustrations and always bang on! πŸ˜€
I see you’ve had a quite a good start with scifi.. I need to give it a go as well.. like proper proper scifi, like the Comet πŸ™‚

Winter has indeed arrived. It’s raining buckets in Ireland… but you know the good thing? It’s the end of January.. which means, spring is only around the corner! february will pass by in the blink of an eye and then it’s all yay and preps for the summer! πŸ™‚ I’m really strange with time… when I’m waiting for the workday to end and there’s like 20 minutes left, then 20 minutes sounds long, but if I count it in 4-5 good song, then tadaaaa! The day is over πŸ˜€ Same with the seasons… xmas done and dusted? roll on spring baby! πŸ˜€

I hope you’re well and slam the door in the face of bad times… Byebye bad times! πŸ˜‰ ❀

    1. I’m having so much fun picking books from so many genres, it’s as fun as the actual reading, haha! I wouldn’t advise you to get In the Days of the Comet, except if you care for love, love, some change, and love :p
Ireland! Number three on my travel list!!! Even with the rain! The temperatures have started rising again here so it’s nice to feel your toes again xD I know!!! Time passes in a weird way. So fast when you’re having fun, and so slowly when you’re in pain (aka studying Crusoe)
Bad bad bad times, hello you and hello sunshine ❀

  3. Nice variety of books on this list! And you did great compared to me this month. Because of that stinking flu I was only able to read (I think) 3 books in January. Ah well… hoping to do better in February!

  4. Good to see a sci-fi book win! I really must read that one sometime – I’ve been very slack about reading sci-fi recently, but I usually enjoy them when I do. And yay for new books! πŸ˜€

  5. I missed your blogs birthday! Happy 1st blogiversary 🌸 It seems like you had a really good month, I hope February is just as great 😊

  6. Great recap Donna. It seemed like you managed to get through quite a few books over the course of this month, both in terms of reading them and buying them. I always end up a little jealous of how much you manage to read and buy each month, please tell me your secrets because I can never get through this many myself!
I’m glad you enjoyed Blue Lily, Lily Blue, and I can’t wait to see what you think of The Raven King as well. Also again congratulations of making it to your one year blogiversary this month! πŸ˜€

    1. Yeah, I’m really happy how January turned out bookish wise, and with some new blogging decisions, it was quite busy. I’ll gradually stop buying books as my budget is getting tighter but I have enough to read for the next two years, haha! My secret is to jump on $0.99 Amazon deals only these days, and I have a person who loves offering me paperbacks so that helps. But I’ve been feeling a bit bad about buying so much.
The Raven King is waiting on my nightstand, I’ll literally jump on it as soon as I’ve caught up with blog tour reads!!!
      Thanks so much!! ❀

      1. Oh I can imagine, I seem to have been a lot busier recently and I’m pretty sure that this year’s blogging for me is going to be a lot different from last years.
Oh that’s a shame about having to tighten your budget when it comes to book buying, but at least you have ways around it which is the important thing! I need to start checking out some of the Β£0.99 deals on Amazon UK.
That’s great, I really can’t wait to see what you think of this one Donna, and that’s all right! πŸ˜€ ❀
