I know it is a cliché 90% of us use at the beginning of a wrap-up post but HOW THE HELL IS IT THE END OF SEPTEMBER? I have recollections of the beginning of the month when I started the paperwork for university, then my birthday, and endless hours waiting for the mail guy to deliver my package, and suddenly October knocks on the door. Can I get those days back? I really need them. Plus, the weather cheated. It’s still summer here. Where is the cold??
What’s New?
I think everything was said in previous posts so I won’t complain again! This was my last week as a lazy girl. Next week the student takes over! I am overly excited about studying English again. On Monday if everything goes as planned, I get my library access back, which means I am going to borrow a hundred books about the Victorian era. Not entirely for pleasure, as I know nothing about the subject, but because I will be studying it for my history class. If you have recommendations — fiction, manuals, anything, hit me!
Books I read in September
The News Media: What Everyone Needs To Know, by C.W. Anderson, Leonard Downie Jr., Michael Schudson
4/5
Very interesting for anyone curious about how journalism evolved and what we can expect from the future. Lots of details, perfect to show off at dinner.
My Grandfather’s Eyes, B.A Spcier
Reviewed here
Undertow, Elizabeth Heathcote
Review to come as soon as I can read my own notes! #oldage
The Ice Beneath Her, Camilla Grebe
Review to come (same issue as Undertow)
Weird Things Customers Say in a Bookshop, Jenny Campbell
4/5
Do people really say this kind of things in bookshops? I should not be surprised, I heard so much when I was a cashier… But really? Hilarious and mortifying!
Carry On, Rainbow Rowell
DNF
Can someone explain to me what I missed with this one?
The Fire Child, S.K Tremayne
3,5/5
The numerous parallels with The Ice Twins bothered me more than I thought they would. I wanted to travel again and feel the atmosphere envelop me, but this time the magic did not work. It even felt forced at times, as if The Fire Child was a copy of its big brother book. I did not really warm up to Rachel, despite her good intentions. Still, I was intrigued enough to read this book in one sitting. I think I was trying to get to the end to compare. The Fire Child is a good thriller but did not live up to my expectations. The key element to make it great was missing.
Manipulated Lives, H.A Leuschel
Review to come!
Books I reviewed in September
Only two reviews this month!
One-way Ticket To Paradise : Review of Return To The Little French Guesthouse
Lazy Saturday Review: Dream a Little Dream of Me… : Review of The Dreal Thieves
New books! (purchased, received, won…)
Birthday month only means one thing: BOOK HAUL.
(Thank you hubby!)
University book mail!
Am I the only one who’s excited to receive a new dictionary?
Book of The Month Award
For the brilliant writing and the fantastic multi-dimensional characters. My first trip to the Nordic crimes was a great one! (even if I can’t pronounce the streets and cities’ names…)

And that’s a wrap! How was September for you? Let me know!
Noooo, it hurts me to see you DNF Carry On because I just bought it a few weeks ago and was planning to read it soon-ish. Most people who review it love it, so I hope I’m one who loves it as well!

I hope you like it! There must be a reason for all those great reviews and ratings. But it did not work for me, at all. I can’t wait to know which side you’re on! 🙂

Ahh if it’s any consolation I love that book- it was one of my faves last year- hopefully you’ll love it!

WOW that book haul! I’m really excited to hear your thoughts about the last two books in The Raven Cycle series. I recently finished The Dream Thieves and I can’t wait to know what happens next 🙂 Wishing you all the best for uni starting up again (I wish I was doing that as well hahaha.) !! 🙂

Haha, I went a little overboard with the buying this month! When will have I have to read them all??? I’m definitely reading Lily Blue, Blue Lily in October, I don’t want to forget the events of the second book, even if I did not like it. How did you find the story, by the way? I hope you weren’t disappointed the way I was!
Thank you ❤ I'm so excited I look like a kid before their very first day at school, haha!

I’m reading Behind Closed Doors this month. Amy was nice enough to send me a copy. 🙂 It sounds really good. Carry On is such crap. Harry Potter fanfic! Blah blah blah! That book was so boring. The whole beginning of the book was nothing but narrative and flashbacks. No thanks, Harry wannabe! I’d rather read the real thing. I’ve never done a wrap up post. I was planning to do one to introduce my next month’s creepy TBR, but the movers never came to move my stuff. 😂 It’s been a crazy day and night. Sleeping on an air mattress is not helping! 😂 I wish you could’ve added my stuff to this list. Damn, post offices! Grrr! They better resolve it now that I put in an international inquiry. So The Raven Cycle, I know you weren’t feeling the second book. Is it like ToG kinda blah? I still haven’t finished the first book. I’m at 27% for like ever. Lol. 😂

I just love the sound of Behind Closed Doors, it’s right up my alley! I’m so glad you’re reading it too, it’s not your usual genre, you fantasy junkie! Because of Carry On, I’m going to stay away from Rowell books for a long time! There is no way the hype works on me anymore. Haha, you’re so stuck in Moving Hell, poor bestie *hugs* I can’t believe they don’t show up on time. I’d rather sleep on the floor! I slept on one of those once when I was a kid and there was a problem, it broke and I got so scared xD I’ll add the unpacking video to the October wrap up.. if the package ever shows up here! The second book of The Raven Cycle was pretty much ToG blah, indeed! I had not thought of it that way but you’re totally right! Except I don’t have expectations from ToG so I don’t mind getting bored in the middle of it. YOU CAN DO IT xD I want you to review it, it should be fun!

Yeah, I’m excited to read that book when I get to Florida. My mom said it came yesterday. 🙂 Ha! Fantasy junkie. Lol. I’m reading two fantasies at the moment. They didn’t show up at all. Moving hell is a very accurate description of my life right now. I wish there was a package. I think someone stole it. After they complete the inquiry, we’ll find out where it went. ToG is dragging so bad. Blah! Just like The Raven Boys. I’m at 70% on ToG and still super bored. How long did it take me to read this book? 2 months? Lol 😂

That’s a lot of new books! I’ve got Behind Closed Doors too and I think Look Behind You, that’s not a new book right? I loved My Girl so I’m dying to know if you like or hate it. You’ve got so many titles that sound so good: The Widow and Undertow, Lie in Wait. I think my TBR will grow bigger every time I read one of your reviews ;-). One more question though, what is in that goddamn package that you’ve been talking about for 2 weeks now, the suspense on that one is as high as the book I’m reading now 😉

I won’t be buying new books before 2017 now except for Hype or Like monthly reads and university manuals so I went a little crazy in September 🙂 Bookworms bless Amazon deals! The ebook version of Look Behind You was published in 2014 I think. I have seen the author’s name on several posts and decided to give it a go. I’ve read many reviews for My Girl and I was on the fence about buying it but there was a $0 deal so I jumped on it. I really have no idea if this book is for me! I’ve been waiting for The Widow since I started blogging, I can’t begin to tell you how thrilled I am to have it on the shelves now. Haha, I’m sorry, I’ll try to tone down my reviews to avoid tempting you xD The package is the birthday box I was supposed to receive the week of my birthday from the US! I was going to do an unpacking video to let Jill see me get all happy and crazy when I discovered her picks. Unfortunately, both the US and the UK post offices suck and the package is either in the middle of the ocean or lost or might suddenly appear at my door. I just hope I get it at some point 😦

It seems like you had a good reading month. One DNF is okay since most of the other books look really good. I loved Behind Closed Door, it was perfectly creepy. My Girl wasn’t for me but other reviewers seem to have really liked it so I hope that you will too. Have a wonderful October. Cheers!

Yes, it was a pretty good month. I am slowly going to make my way through the books I’ve been dying to read and reduce my time on ARCs so I hope to give plenty more good ratings! 🙂 I really did not feel guilty about giving up on Carry On. I crave creepy stories! (and that sounds creepy!) I really don’t know if My Girl will be a hit with me because the only reason I got it was it was for free on Amazon. The blurb intrigued me but I was not sure it would be for me. I can’t wait to discover the answer! I wish you a brilliant and spooky October!

You had a great month!! I thought My Girl was pretty good, when you get a chance to read it 🙂 I am dying to read Behind Closed Doors! I’m trying to put together a great thriller and spooky October TBR and I defiantly need that one on it.

It was indeed a great month 🙂 short but very cool (except for the weather…) I am dreading October because of all the spooky books that will be reviewed, haha. I am a squeamish wuss so I’ll be hiding under the bed!

Shame you didn’t like Carry On, but a few people said that, so I get it. And did I miss your birthday? I feel like I missed your birthday… or maybe I didn’t… I’m sleepy- either way happy birthday! (I can say it again even if I’ve already said it) Also I don’t care if it is cliche- WHERE THE HELL DID SEPTEMBER GO?!? (and where’s this year been going for that matter!

Great recap Donna, and yeah it’s cliché but I agree with you, where has this month gone? And where has 2016 gone as well, honestly it’s pretty much the end of the year and I’m wondering what I’ve actually done with my life?
I’m still in awe of how many books you manage to get through each month. I read a lot more this month but still nowhere near all of yours. That’s an impressive book haul too, it’s always great getting books for birthdays isn’t it? And I can’t wait to see your reviews for the rest of The Raven Cycle books either hopefully you’ll enjoy them more than The Dream Thieves! 😀

2016 flew by, and I’m left wondering what the hell did I do with those days, too 🙂 It’s crazy. I have the feeling time goes faster with every passing year. Could it be just like the greenhouse effect? *conspiration* Or maybe it’s because I’ve spent so much time on the blog that I did not realize hours were passing by. Thank you 🙂 I am definitely not impressed by the number of books I squeeze in a month, I wish I could read faster! But I guess it will be worse with university starting next week, so I’m happy with September. Books were the highlight of my birthday. Before 2016, I used to get only a couple of titles, so I think I went overboard to compensate all the years I have wasted, haha! I’m reading Lily Blue very soon, it’s on my Spookboter reading list 🙂

I think it’s just an effect of growing old, and the older we get the quicker the years go by. Oh I know what you mean, I wish I could read more as well but there’s never enough time in a month to read all the books I want to read and fit in blogging as well. Good luck with the start of uni next week as well, and yeah you’re right I guess that will make it a little harder to fit things in, I find it hard sometimes with work to find enough time but it’s never normally that and you know, I can catch up on weekends at time.
Ohh, in that case I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for that review! 😀

Ohh, too bad you didn’t like The Fire Child as much! I actually loved it, but then again, I haven’t read The Ice Twins yet…
Great book haul!!! Happy reading all of them! 😀
And I’m looking forward to read your review for The Ice Beneath!

The Ice Twins was my first love of the year, so coming after was a difficult task. The Fire Child did not do too badly, but my heart still belongs to the first book 🙂 Thank you! I should have thought twice before indulging into so much buying, I will never find the time to read them all!

I want October to last twice as long as September did :(. You’re right about it flying by! It must be the end of days is upon us *wooooooooooooooo’s* ;). And be gone stupid summer! Now that is a fabulous book haul (I’m hungry now that I’ve seen the cover with the cupcake 😉 ). So did your hubby give you the book about a loving husband or a heartless killer?? University book mail is yum!

It’s October, and I’m wearing a tee shirt. The end of the world is near. Hubby chose a heartless husband xD He has no idea what the books are about, he just clicks on Amazon, haha. I am pretty sure he does not even read the titles! University book mail was good, but a morning at the university library was even better 😀 I brought back 10 books and promised the others I’d come back soon!

My Girl was promising but I didn’t like it because I felt everything happened too quickly. Like there weren’t explanations and I wanted more background, it was too short. But people seem to love it, so I’m in the minority XD I think I would’ve loved it if it was more developed.
Enjoy your reading month and your English classes !^^ And take it easy!

How on earth did you get so much done in a single month? Just reading your wrap-up gave me secondhand fatigue! Good job being productive (and raking in such a great book haul).
I didn’t really get Carry On, either. I read it toward the beginning of my crazy-long hiatus, and it was okay. As always, it’s good to see I’m not the only one who’s left out of a popular book’s fankid loop. =)
Victorian era stuff, heck yeah! And three cheers for regaining library access! I hope October treats you well.

Haha, I always have to do something otherwise I am bored, so I fill my days with everything, even Netflix marathons (after all, Gilmore Girls is coming!) Thank you! 🙂 It was nice to grab all those books before uni started. Now I can look at them to motivate me to worker faster! Congrats on finishing Carry On, I did not have the strength/patience. I’m still baffled by the number of awesome reviews it got.
I missed my library card so much I borrowed 10 books already, oops…! Have a great Spooktober!
