I admit it. I avoided this award for a very long time. The first time I was nominated, I was delighted of course, but the blissful feeling was soon replaced by the pressure to give advice. As a baby blogger, I felt there was not much I could share that would be useful to anyone. The Second time I was nominated, I was a teenager blogger. My happiness was overshadowed by my acne lack of confidence. But this time, I am ready! That doesn’t mean I consider my blog to have achieved the adult stage of its life, but let’s say we reached 18. Or 21 depending on where you live.
Many many thanks to Fatima @ Noteablepad Louise @ Geniereads Anushka Anand @ Living In The Pagesz and MRenee @That Wild Soul for nominating me to the Blogger Recognition Award. Each of these blogs is different and deserves some love so go check them!
RULES
- Write a post to show your award
- Give a brief story of how your blog started
- Give two advice to new bloggers
- Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog

How it all started
The end of the year always put me in a major depressing state. December 2015 was no exception. With all the time in the world and nothing to do, I was going nuts. That was when I had the crazy idea to find something to do. Easier said than done.
Until The Idea appeared. On a cold, rainy day, standing in the middle of the university library, between the giant dictionaries and the Jane Austen special display, I realized the answer was in front of me. *dramatic music*
I loved books. Surely I was not the only one. Why not create a place to talk about books and find people that my fangirling and deep conversations about stories would not scare or bore to death? I mean, we all know how frustrating when no one is here to listen to you babble about your last book!
I really needed something to focus on, something that would help me be happier. What better than waffles, tea, books and people who loves books as much as you to chat away or dissect every part of a story?
It took me a few more days to take the jump, and another one to come up with the right name and finally type that WordPress address that would become a new home to my passion.
The Advice
I did not know anyone in the blogosphere when I started. Everything was new, shiny and scary. I took my first steps and started engaging with other bloggers. Guess what?
Everyone has a first day, a first mistake (and a thousand others waiting for them!), a first mess-up. When I could not figure out why one of my links was not working, I asked around. When I felt swamped with work and had no more time for posts, I asked around. I heard about scheduling, time-managing, all those things people had struggled with and figured out before me.
Don’t hesitate to ask other bloggers for their advice or opinion. We are lucky to be part of a very friendly and warm community. You are sure to find a willing soul able to answer your question.
Pressure kills creativity. Pressure kills your brain and leaves you wiping on your bed. If there is one piece of advice I would have liked to receive when I created my blog, this is the one.
Keep in mind that blogging is a hobby. A hobby is fun. A hobby takes your mind off of your problems, chores, homework. I take my blog very seriously. It is my baby and I want it to grow, look gorgeous just like me, and be interesting.
But sometimes I need a reminder that being too serious about it, pressuring myself into creating more content, writing better reviews, being more active, will only lead me to a burnout. I am particularly hard on myself when writing reviews. I want them to be perfect. But they don’t have to be, as long as I am honest and put my feelings into it. (I should print this and stick it somewhere on my laptop.). Your theme doesn’t not have to be perfect, and you are allowed to change as many times as you want, so don’t worry about not liking your looks in a month. You can’t find a topic for a discussion post? Try again next week!
You don’t HAVE to blog, you don’t have to comment, you don’t have to read a book. You should be happy to do it, or you should not do it at all.
Blog when you want, about what you want. Blog for yourself, and say bye-bye to the pressure.
The class is over! Go have some fun on your blog!

That is such great advice! Even after I’ve been blogging for over a year I still ask people for help/advice and I try to make this as fun as possible for me and anyone who decides to read what I say!

That’s the best way to go 🙂 I was a little shy to ask for advice when I started, but I soon learned no one around the community bites!

Great advice, Donna! I just started about a month ago and I felt more or less the same!

Thank you! 🙂 I think no matter how long we have been blogging, there will always be someone who has gone through the same things as us, so why not make it an opportunity to share. But most importantly, keep having fun with our blogs!

Yay, congratulations! And I LOVE all of these advice, so, so true, especially the one about the pressure. It’s so easy to get pressured, feel behind on everything, get stressed and want to just, scream or throw the computer away, haha. But we have to keep in mind that it’s a hobby. Well, to be hnest, I treat book blogging like a job, but a job I love and that doesn’t make money, so I am okay with not posting at times, blog hopping a bit later or missing some things, I won’t get fired for it, haha. I want to work for it like a job, be organized and everything, BUT keep in mind htat it’s a hobby I do because I love, and not scream or destroy my computer over it haha :p great post! ❤

I treat my blog as my dream job too ❤ It's my baby! I've had a couple of "incidents" that frustrated me so much I thought about giving it all up and destroying my laptop. Yep, I was mad. Reaaaally mad. Then I remembered all the fun I've had with my blog and the awesome people I've met, and did my best to let go of the pressure. It's a work in progress, that nasty nasty pressure is always hidden somewhere, but I won't let it destroy everything! 🙂 thank you ❤

Haha this has happened to me as well, I’m glad I’m not the only one wanting to throw my computer on a wall when that happens haha. We just need to remind ourselves to take a breather and have a good time 🙂

And that computers are not cheap and don’t react well to wall, tea cups, or any other weapons, haha!

Hahaha, exactly. We should remember that 😀

hahaha love your intro! loved your story for how the blog began too!! Gosh- your advice is so good- and definitely something I need to bear in mind- at the moment I’ve been forced to take more time away from my blog cos of life getting in the way too much, and the fact that I’m blogging less at the moment is definitely making me feel pressure about it in the way I haven’t before- so your advice is coming at the perfect time!

I love your advice Donna! 🙂 I was always a little embarrassed to ask for advice, but there is no shame in doing it. We’ve all been in that position, and we can all understand it. The pressure is a killer though! Particularly last month I felt a lot of pressure to blog consistently and comment, and that’s only going to make you frustrated and burn out. It’s important to remember that no one will come knocking on your door furiously if you neglect posting or don’t comment – it’s supposed to be fun! 😀
If your blog is only now reaching it:s adult year, I’m truly impressed at what a talented baby blogger you have been 🙂 Keep

Thank you 🙂 I’ve always been a fast baby learner, haha! I struggle with the pressure very often, especially when it comes to publishing reviews, so I thought I would remind myself and others that it’s okay to breathe and take it as it comes instead of hurrying to finish posts, brainstorming for ideas until we get headaches, or feeling awful for missing a deadline. It happens, and it’s okay!

Thanks for tagging me! I think your post and advice were great, but I did this before and I don’t think I can come up with any more wisdom
but still thank you so much for considering me 😀

Good advice! I think a lot of people probably feel pressured to crank out one post after another. I posted one or more per day for a solid month, and I was so burned out by the end of the month I almost took a long break. Instead, I read more and decided to post when something comes to mind with no pressure. I had so much help from Larkin and Britt when I first started. They kept me sane. And then, I met you not long after. You still keep me sane. 😉 Thanks, girl! I had no idea France was so well-known for waffles until I met you. I always thought Belgium was the land of amazing waffles. I was so wrong. 😂 Nice post!

I really don’t know how you managed to keep this schedule for a month. I would have exploded under the pressure. Hehe, I am a sanity keeper. I should add that to my bio! 🙂 Belgium stole everything to France 😂

I was about ready to explode. I almost thought about quitting at one point because it was starting to feel like a job. Yes, you are the sanity keeper. 😉 Haha! I believe that. All of the good foods always start with some French influence. They always say on the cooking shows here that if you can master French cuisines, you can make anything.

What a lovely post! Like you I don’t like giving advice although I dress it up as I like other blogs because they do things differently to me – the only advice I can give is how to write a blog like mine which isn’t terribly useful to anyone. Your advice on remembering it’s a hobby is the best kind, and one plenty of us need reminding of from time to time!

Thank you! 🙂 I love your blog. People would definitely benefit from your advice. I sure need to be reminded it’s a hobby, or blogging would turn into a chore in the end!

Yaaas you had nothing to be worried about with this tag! Your advice is universally on point, whether you’re a new blogger or an older blogger. I especially identify with the pressure thing – I always find the guilt creeps in if I’m not up on my tags or replying to comments straight away but you’re totally right, it’s so important to remember that it’s a hobby and it’s supposed to be fun. Congrats! 😊 x
