This Week In Books (June 8th 2016)

thisweekinbooks

This Week In Books is a weekly update on what you’ve been reading hosted by Lipsyy Lost & Found . A similar meme is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words.

I kind of neglected my blog these past few days, but I am trying to catch up with your posts and my reviews now, and hopefully I will get enough sleep to post regularly again.

∧ Then ∧ The Last Billable Hour, Susan Wolfe

THELASTBILLABLEHOUR

I finished this one yesterday afternoon. It took me more time than expected because the story dragged a lot in the first quarter, and the pace only got slightly better after, but not enough for me to really enjoy the story.

≈ Now ≈ The Dali Deception, Adam Maxwell

the dali deception

A professional thief returns home and must round up the perfect team to carry out a unique heist. Can they pull it off before her murderous ex-boyfriend and a psychotic crime kingpin cause the whole thing to come crashing down?
Violet Winters is a professional thief. Clever and resourceful, she can walk in to any building and leave with the goods. Betrayed by her murderous boyfriend she has spent eighteen months in exile but Violet is lured back home to Kilchester for a unique heist. She must steal a ‘painting’ — a blank canvas, signed by Salvador Dali — and replace it with a forgery. Everything is going to plan until local crime kingpin Big Terry crashes the party. With the start of the heist hours away Violet doesn’t know who she can trust, whether she is going to walk into the room with the painting and find the police waiting for her or if she’ll get beaten to death by a furious midget. And then everything goes sideways.

Let’s be honest, I don’t understand much about art. But who cares? Look at that interesting cover! Plus, thieves, a big prize, and betrayal sound like a great mix.

∨ Next ∨ The Scorch Trials, James Dashner

the scorch trials

Solving the Maze was supposed to be the end.
Thomas was sure that escape from the Maze would mean freedom for him and the Gladers. But WICKED isn’t done yet. Phase Two has just begun. The Scorch.
There are no rules. There is no help. You either make it or you die.
The Gladers have two weeks to cross through the Scorch—the most burned-out section of the world. And WICKED has made sure to adjust the variables and stack the odds against them.
Friendships will be tested. Loyalties will be broken. All bets are off.
There are others now. Their survival depends on the Gladers’ destruction—and they’re determined to survive.

My first physical book in weeks! I will finally get to know what happens to the group after they escaped the Maze! You have no idea how much will it took me not to pick this book sooner.

Have you read any of those books? What are you reading this week?:)
Do share in the comments!
Happy reading!

    1. Thanks! 🙂 I need to somehow reduce my excitement over the book or there’s a risk I’ll be disappointed due to my heightened expectations! I think the last time I was so eager to read a book was whenever a new Harry Potter would come out.

    1. Thanks 🙂 I just need to keep my excitement from putting too much pressure on the book! I am 30% on The Dali Deception, and so far it’s really good.

    1. I know, I love the cover! It kinda reminds me of the pictures during the loading time in Grand Theft Auto (yep, that game is one of the few only references I have for images, haha). I’m only 30% in but the story hasn’t disappointed me yet! Yep, you need more than lawyers to make a great read. Thanks for the link, I’ll visit your post now 🙂

    1. It is definitely not the best legal crime story I’ve ever read. The idea was good but some thing were just unbelievable, at least for me. The crime itself doesn’t happen before 30% of the book, I found it was too late. I love the all law firm atmosphere but 30% lost on this only seemed too much. I’m going to stop here or you’ll have my full review, haha! In the end, it’s a book I could have lived without. Just okay, no great or mind-blowing material.
I am enjoying The Dali Deception tremendously, I like the fact I don’t need to know a lot about art to get into the story.
Thank you for the link! I’m off to read your post 🙂

    1. I hated the movie adaptation of The Maze Runner, I kept screaming at the screen for two hours, haha! So I’m hesitant now about watching the rest!

    1. I thought about putting the laptop, my phone and the dogs away to finally have time to read it, haha. A couple of days and I’ll finally know what happens next!

  1. The Dali Deception sounds great! And I’m personally not a big fan of The Maze Runner series, but I know a lot of people seem to love it. If you liked the first book, you will most likely enjoy the sequel as well. 🙂 Don’t read the prequel (The Kill Order) though; it doesn’t add anything to the main story and it’s pretty bad in general.

      1. Yay! The prequel doesn’t really have to do a lot with the main series and is pretty bad as a stand-alone… I’ve heard some people enjoyed it anyway, but I personally wouldn’t recommend it.

      1. I’m reading Since You’ve Been Gone now- no strong feelings about it as of yet. And I finished Pivot Point yesterday- no strong feelings about that either. Although just before I went away/on the train up I read All the Bright Places- which was amazing!!

          1. hahaha don’t worry, they’re in my guilty pleasure list- so I won’t judge you for not liking them (if anything I judge myself for picking them up when I don’t even like most of them- but they’re great when you just don’t want to think)
